Alaska Part 1

I decided to break up our trip to Alaska into a few parts so it's not so overwhelming. We seriously had the time of our lives and I want to remember every minute. It was our dream vacation.



Before we left for the cruise Landon was very sick for over two weeks. We ended up going to the insta care three days before the cruise & also a gastroenterologist. Long story short, he most likely has a hiatus hernia (part of your tummy gets pushed up inside of your esophagus)...which explains the feeling of constant fullness, pain in his chest, nausea etc. Poor guy. Basically we were not excited for our trip at all. Landon was just plain miserable. The night before we left he got a priesthood blessing. After that, we decided that yes we should still go on the cruise and make the most of it, even though Landon felt like death.

Friday morning we woke up and he was still feeling awful. We flew to Anchorage and got in around midnight, found a cozy corner in the airport, and spent the night. Oh my, I have never felt more homeless! Airport benches are not comfortable...if you didn't already know that. But it actually didn't end up being so bad. I did wake up every 30 minutes because the airport would announce what time it was... why yes, I was anxious to hear that it is now 2:30 in the morning. Thank you, Anchorage!

After a long night, we caught a bus from the airport to Whittier and we got to see what all the fuss is about with Alaska. It is absolutely breathtaking.

We got to Whittier at 8 am and had to wait 4.5 hours to actually get on the ship. Landon was feeling worse than ever and began teasing me that he may be dying. Not funny Landon!

At 12:30 we finally got to board the ship and go exploring! We loved the layout of the boat and even though we didn't end up with an upgraded room with a balcony like last time, our room was still pretty good :)

I took a visit to the sundae bar at least twice a day. Yummm.

We spent the rest of the day catching up on some much needed sleep and food. Amazingly, Landon started to feel better.

The next two days were days at sea to visit Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay. And guess what? Landon felt almost back to normal. It was a miracle. Truly. He still had the feeling of fullness and had no appetite, but that didn't stop us from eating all day.

it's amazing to see these GINORMOUS mountains coming straight from sea level. 

Our day consisted of eat, sleep, eat, eat, sleep, look at the glaciers, eat, sleep, sleep. It was so relaxing!

And don't even get me started on how beautiful (and cold) Alaska is. Pictures really don't do it justice. At all. It was completely UNREAL. I love the inside passage. Normally on cruises you only see the open ocean, but when you cruise to Alaska you are always surrounded by giant mountains and little islands and it's just unbelievable. Plus, it makes the water very smooth so we only felt the boat rocking like once the entire trip!

we got some CRAZY fog going up Glacier Bay. Such an eerie feeling. We couldn't see a thing. And the fog horn is LOUD and would go off every couple of minutes.

We love cruises. The days at sea with just nothing to do but enjoy the beautiful scenery, boat, each other, and food were absolutely perfect. Stay tuned for parts 2 & 3 :)
