Charlie Dean is FOUR!

What can I even say about this cute boy? Charlie brings so much laughter and joy and love to our family. I spent the past few days looking through pictures of his third year and of course was very emotional. He has just grown up so much!!! He moved from his crib to his big boy bed, finally potty trained, went on his first big vacation (and first airplane ride that he can remember) to Hawaii, became a big brother, and just turned into a little boy. My heart can't really take how fast he's growing up. We are just so in love with our big boy!!!

He is just a ball of personality and boy is he dramatic! He's such a ham and loves to perform and sing and would seriously make a good actor. He is hilarious and makes us laugh out loud with the funny things he says and does. Examples of funny things he says:

Every time he sees an American flag he excitedly exclaims, "America!"

One day Landon was teasing him and pretending to eat his candy. Charlie said, "just go to work Dada!"

A few months ago he would add the phrase, "I guess" to the end of everything. Examples: "We can go to the park I guess." "It's time to eat lunch I guess." Now, his favorite word is actually and the phrase, "I think." Examples: "It's actually time to read books actually I think." "Mama, I love you so much I think."

When I tell him it's time for nap/bed he says, "no it's good morning time!"

I was telling him I couldn't climb on the bed because I'm too big and he said, "you're a fat boy, Mama!"

I "mam" instead of I am. When we ask him if he is cute

It's not "bawana!" it's "bawana!"

He'll tell me I'm so cute and that I'm a good boy, Mama

"You teasing Mama, Dada!"

When I was 36 weeks pregnant he said, "Mama is big and Grandma is tiny!"

Instead of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" it is "The Veally (Really) Hungry Caterpillar"

He is also Mr. Smarty pants, which we've known from the start when he memorized most letters of the alphabet at 17 months and now all of their sounds at 3 years old (without any real teaching, just him asking me questions and being interested). The other day he completely shocked me when he got out our Peter Pan book and literally read the ENTIRE book (from memory, he can't read) with only a few mistakes. It's 15 minutes long!!!! He loves to learn new things and has an amazing memory.

Charlie is a sweetheart and tells me all day long, "because I love you and I love you Mama!" or "you're so cute Mama!" or "Mom, I had so much fun with you at the park today." He is just a love bug and has FINALLY gotten more snuggly. He looooves his people, including his grandparents, family, and of course his friends. He makes friends wherever he goes. Sometimes he's a bit too friendly and it scares the shy kids, but he loves to make friends. When he sees another kid he always says, "hi friend!"

He has such an incredible imagination. It is so fun to watch him play with all of his little figures and hear the elaborate stories he makes up. Even when he doesn't have any toys and he's just riding along in the stroller he will make up songs and stories. Sometimes it's hard to get him out of his "head" when he's pretending to be a dinosaur or dog and we often say, "okay I need you to be Charlie now!" when we are trying to get him to listen to us and do something like get dressed. Since he was an only child for so long, he's gotten really good at playing by himself and it's been so good for his little (big) imagination.

Charlie LOVES to read books. We read two books before his nap and two books before bedtime and definitely read in-between too. He often just pulls his books out and reads through them himself. I've always said that I hope my kids love to read, so it just warms my heart to see how much he loves books!

Charlie is the BEST big brother. I was so worried about how he'd respond to having a little brother but he just loves Teddy sooooo much. He's really the sweetest and will run to give him his binky if he's crying, loves to make him giggle and laugh, and gives him the sweetest kisses. The other night Charlie made Teddy giggle for the first time and he just came running to me out of breath telling me so excitedly that he got him to giggle. It was the best to see them interacting like that.

Charlie loves to play outside! He loves to find bugs, play in the dirt, find rocks, and he's a pro at riding his strider bike. He can go soooo fast and will lift both of his legs up and balance. On our nightly walks he has been riding almost 2 miles on his bike and does a really good job at waiting for us at the corners.

Every night and every nap time Charlie gets a story and two songs. The story is usually about what we did that day or something fun we've done in the past (like going to Lagoon, Hawaii, etc.) But the songs... oh the songs! He will tell me what he wants a song about and then I make it up. I've become quite the lyricist. Here's an example... (to the tune of twinkle twinkle little star) Blanket song, blanket song! Charlie has a cozy blanket! It is blue and it is cozy! And it has whales and is so soft! Blanket song, blanket song! Charlie loves his cozy blanket.

Charlie Dean, you are the most special boy! There is no one quite like you. You are hilarious, smart, sweet, silly, and my very best friend. I love you with all of my heart little boy!

Charlie Dean is THREE!

Our sweet little boy is THREE! How did he get so big so fast?!

We are obsessed with this little man and his big personality! He is 100% all the time with all of his feelings (like his mom) and his constant need to go go go go GO (like his dad).

He talks so well and in sentences so he'll say things like, "Mama let's go downstairs and watch Hotel Transylvania." (His latest obsession. He loves all things Halloween!) It's crazy to hear him talking just like a kid. He's so big!!!!

He loves music and loves to sing! His favorite songs to sing are "Remember Me" from Coco while he  plays Landon's guitar and "We Will Rock You." He loves The Beatles, Queen, and Dragons (Imagine Dragons). When we're in the car listening to music and it's not loud enough he'll say, "I need it BIG Mama!"

He plays so well independently and loves any car from Cars, PJ Masks, and his Moana toys. He has such a cute imagination!! One of his favorite things to do is race his Lightening McQueen around the coffee table and he makes the best car revving noise before he starts the race and then crazily races the car around the table as fast as he can and then of course reenacts a big crash. He is very dramatic and creative and we just LOVE watching him play!

He is very opinionated and wants things done in a very specific way! If it's not done to his exact specifications, he'll definitely let you know about it, Mr. Bossy!

He has an AMAZING memory. Last summer we hiked a waterfall with my sister Ali and he brought a rock home. It sits on his shelf and he hasn't seen/held it for months and months. He saw it sitting on his shelf the other day and asked for his waterfall rock and then started talking about Ali and the bear in the cave (that's another story for another day haha). He also knows everyone's names in our families, which is saying a lot considering I have a HUGE family. The other day I asked him what mama's name is and he just casually said, "Mama is Hannah." I had NO idea he knew my name so I asked him about Dada, Pops, Papa, Nini, etc. He's just so smart!

Charlie Dean, we love you SO much! You are our joy and truly the light of our life. I don't know how we ever survived without you!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY SWEET BOY!!!

Charlie Dean is TWO!

I am in complete denial... my baby boy is TWO!!!! I can't even believe how fast time has gone and I am really trying my best to soak in every minute with this sweet boy. He is seriously our little buddy and we are soooo in love with him!!!

Charlie Dean, what can I even say about you? You are the funniest little boy full of SO much personality. You are silly and love an audience to make laugh.

You love to sing songs with me, especially Wheels on the Bus (with our own add ons), Johnny Johnny, and Old McDonald.  You started singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" a few weeks ago and just about MELTED me. You have always loved music and love to sing your "la la la" Daddy's song, play your harmonica and xylophone, and whistle.

You are SO incredibly smart, and I'm not just saying that because I'm your mom and totally biased. You truly are! I can tell you something ONCE and you remember it forever (so I'm always scared of accidentally teaching you the wrong thing ha!) You know 21 out of 26 letters, basically all the shapes (including pentagon, octagon, etc.), and all of your colors. People will say to me, "you must really work with him!" but you really are self-taught! You learned your letters from playing with a letter toy and you're just so curious and love to learn. You also LOVE to read, and lately you are more independent about it (which makes me sad but it's sooo cute watching you read on your own).

You definitely have a bit of a shy/nervousness about you. If you get embarrassed you cover your face with your hands and it is sooo adorable. If you're ever in an uncomfortable situation, you will start giving me and your Daddy lots of mooches. It is so cute! You also can be very friendly to strangers and wave and say hi, or the complete opposite and stare people down with your mean mug. One of your favorite strangers is the "lady" at Costco. As soon as we pull up, you start saying "lady lady lady!" and LOOOVE to hand her the receipt.

You love Memo (Nemo), Mo-Nana (Moana), Pat Pat (Little Einsteins), Baby (Boss Baby),  and Paw-trol (Paw Patrol)... we love the cuddles we get when we bring you into our bed in the morning to watch a show.

You are BUSY BUSY BUSY. You are pretty much go go go all day and love to gallop and jump and run and you are just constantly moving from one thing to the next.

You have gotten really good at asking for help and using words when you need something. The way you say "help help" or "pwease" is soooo sweet. You'll also say "hand" and then grab my finger to drag me to whatever you need help with.

You are a little love bug and love your people. If I ask you who you love, you'll go through a list of your "people" including your puppies. You say "ove woo" (love you) and it really is too much for my heart to handle.

You LOVE food, just like your mama. One of our favorite words that you say is "pacon" for bacon (and you love it!) You also love pizza, bananas, bean beans (green beans) toast, chicken nuggets, and cheese cheese (mac and cheese). Oh and anything chocolate--cookies, M&M's, brownies, chocolate chips. You know the good stuff!

You are SO stubborn and have a lot of feelings (including a pretty intense little temper). You are either SO happy and content or SO not happy haha. I feel like one of my biggest challenges as your mom will be to help you learn how to control all of your feelings and emotions, because most adults still have trouble with that (let's be real, so do I!)

You are really good at playing independently. It is so cute to watch you tinker and play and talk gibberish with your toys. You definitely love to play with Mom and Dad too, but it is pretty darn cute to see you playing by yourself.

Charlie Dean, you are the LIGHT of our life and make us SO happy! We love you more than you will ever know! Happy 2nd Birthday Baby Boy!!!

Charlie's First Birthday Celebration!

Turning one is a pretty big deal, and we had the best day celebrating our little love. Birthdays are the BEST! I know he won't remember any of it, but I hope one day he'll look back on these videos and pictures and know how loved he is.

We started the day out with 20 balloons in his crib. He LOVED it!

The rest of the day was pretty normal, but we did take him to the park in his wagon to ride down the slide. Then he napped while I decorated and got ready for the party.

We had my parents and Landon's mom and Jason over for dinner (homemade chicken taquitos with rice and beans). After dinner, we let Charlie have his birthday cake. I have been looking forward to this moment FOR MONTHS. He is such a huge fan of food, so I knew he would love it and I couldn't wait to see his reaction. It was seriously the CUTEST thing I have ever seen. He was pretty timid with it at first and then he demolished it. We were all laughing so hard! Watching him eat his birthday cake was probably one of my top-five favorite moments of my life!

Charlie didn't take a very long afternoon nap, so he was pretty exhausted by the time it was time for presents. He really didn't care about them at all ha! But, we really are SO grateful for everyone who spoiled him rotten! (And for the record, he LOVES his new toys and that's all he's been playing with these past few days!!

Nana and Pops got Charlie the cutest summer outfit, a wooden puzzle, and a book (his favorite!).

Nini and Papa got him a ride-on airplane toy (so awesome!), a ton of Disney jammies, a stuffed orca, a cute puzzle, and a Little People animal train.

Grandpa and Grandma sent him a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe. I am SO excited to take him on rides in it this summer! (P.S. I assembled that bad boy!)

We got him a little toy racecar, a train with pop-up animals, and a ride-on puppy.

After Charlie went to bed, Landon said to me, "we are really going to miss today one day..." and it is so true. It was a magical day celebrating our favorite little boy and I'll never forget it!
Charlie, you are SO loved! Happy First Birthday sweet boy!
