My cute parents invited us to go stay at a beach house with them in Lincoln City a few months ago and we of course were SO excited to go back to Oregon! We hadn't been back since we moved away exactly 3 years ago. We miss Oregon so much!!!
It was a 14 hour drive to the beach and I was so worried about how Charlie would be. But, he was awesome! He loves food like his Mama, so I think he was just happy to be sitting in the car eating junk food all day haha. He watched a few movies, played with his toys, and read books. He was an angel.
When we finally made it to the house, Charlie was SO excited to see Nana and Pops. We decided to go eat at Mo's which sits right on a harbor so Charlie got to see the ocean for the first time. He loved it of course and got to see some people pull up a crab pot and chased a few seagulls.
The next day we went to the beach and Charlie was perfectly content to play in the sand and was not interested in playing in the "scary waves." I did get him to go out to the water once, but he just wasn't having it.
Landon brought his paramotor, so of course he had to go flying the first day. He had quite the crowd watching him as he took off right from the beach! It was sooo cool and the footage he got on his go pro was amazing (check out the video at the very end of this post). After his flight he went back to the car to put it away and a park ranger came up and told him he's not allowed to take off or land from any Oregon beach and that you have to fly 50 feet above the beach. Woops! I'm just glad he at least had the opportunity to fly at the beach one time. :)
The next day we adventured down south and went to Seal Rock, Hobbit Trail, and saw Heceta Lighthouse. We didn't see any seals at Seal Rock, but it was absolutely gorgeous!
Hobbit Trail was Charlie's first real hike where he wasn't being carried and he LOVED it. We told him to look for Hobbits and he thought we were saying "puppets" or "poppets." So he kept saying "poppets down there" as he pointed into the woods. It was adorable!
The hike leads to a beautiful beach so we hung out there for a bit before hiking back up. Unfortunately, the hike back up had some very steep parts at the beginning and my poor dad really struggled. It was actually very scary. But I'm so proud of him for doing it. He had such a good attitude and just took it slowly. We told Charlie that Pops is amazing so Charlie kept encouraging him saying, "Pops AMAZING!" At one point I was pushing my dad's back to make the hike uphill easier. Charlie then started to push my back--it was so cute! Anyway, my dad is my hero and cancer sucks.
After our hike we took a little picnic on a scenic view lookout of Heceta Lighthouse. We tried to go eat right at the lighthouse, but you actually had to hike UP to see it, and there was no way we were about to do another hike. It was actually a really beautiful view and there were tons of seals.
The next day we took it easy and just hung out in Lincoln City. Landon went for another flight but took off at the airport instead of the beach. He saw WHALES while he was flying but the dumb go pro died so he didn't get that on video. Dang it! Charlie spent HOURS playing in the "D River" which is apparently the shortest river in the world. I was actually really glad the river was at our beach because it was much less intimidating for him. He seriously wouldn't go near the waves!
On Saturday we drove up to Beaverton to see our old house. It was sooooo weird to see it and then not be allowed to go inside haha. It was also really weird to be back with Charlie since he was never in Oregon with us (well, only in my belly!) We went on our old walk and stopped by our friend Monte's house. I wish Cheryl would've been there too, but it was so good to see him.
After that we stopped by our favorite donut place, Sesame Donuts. They are SO good. Charlie was of course in heaven. Then it was on to Portland to see the good ole Columbia where we learned how to sail. Gosh, it was hard to be back and not actually get to be on that beautiful river!!!

Then we went up to Washington to see the Magyars--the family I nannied for 3 years. They have grown up so much and it was just so great to see them!! I love them so much and they'll always be a huge part of my heart. Charlie was obsessed with Gabby and still brings her up almost every day. We had a yummy dinner and then Charlie played in the pool. He was very hesitant at first but got more comfortable by the end and just had a blast!!
On our last day we went to Tillamook Cheese Factory (of course!) and to a little beach I'd never heard of before called Neskowin. They completely re-did the cheese factory and it is really cute now. Charlie moo'd at all the cows, loved watching the cheese "go up the slide," fed a fake baby cow a bottle, and enjoyed a yummy grilled cheese.
Charlie said "BIG cow!" in the funny voice he says when talking about "big" things. Oh, I love him.
Neskowin beach was SO beautiful. The green hills and the giant rock jutting from the water and it was pretty secluded/not very busy. Charlie loved all the dead crabs (ha!) and we actually got him to touch the "scary waves" a few times--and then he'd run away as fast as he could screaming. He's so funny! We also found some jelly fish washed up on the sand and he would poke them and say "boing boing" (like from Nemo). It was definitely my favorite day of the trip!
We were NOT ready to leave and just had the best time. Family is EVERYTHING and we made some awesome memories. Thanks again Mom and Dad!!!!
